Co-founder, Edge Growth (Edge)
Daniel started his career at Accenture in the Strategy & Business Architecture division where he focused on developing diagnostics and tools to assist SMEs. In the 5 years that followed, Daniel was at FirstRand Bank where he first focused on building an ‘owner/manager’ system for the retail network to enable branch managers to become business owners. He then headed up the Joint Venture division responsible for setting up and incubating growth businesses in the consumer banking space.
Since co-founding Edge Growth (Edge), Daniel has been involved in ESD across the entire value chain – from developing and implementing ESD strategies for corporates across multiple sectors, to being ‘hands on’ with grassroots SME incubation. Daniel has structured, raised capital and set up 4 first-of-a-kind ESD funds for companies and associations across industry. The first of these is known as Vumela which Edge manages in alliance with FirstRand. With R400m under management, it is the largest ESD fund in the market. Daniel frequently speaks at conferences and contributes to numerous publications as part of a mission to spread Edge’s learnings and best practice in the ESD space. In his role as Managing Director, Daniel aspires to lead the business in achieving its vision of “5 x 500 x 5” which translates to “creating at least 5 jobs in 500 businesses in 5 years”. He is currently serving his second term as a director on the SAVCA board (South African Venture Capital Association).
